Letter from Roy Bruce to Maud Bruce

Nasrieh Miltary Hospital . Cairo 24. 7. 17.

My dearest Maud :

Truly my luck has
lately been out, and of course you have
been worried by cables over nothing at all,
really a baksheesh one this time, and
one that can only be exhited to my
most intimate friends. A small piece of
a bomb from a plane entered my beam,
and I wouldn't have gone to hospital at
all with it only of course I couldn't ride
& there was no mantelpiece for me to
have my breakfast on. A most
ridiculous wound.

There was a little
stunt, and while waiting for developments
this plane dropped a few bombs. I was
lying on the ground chewing a shaw and
watching the blighter. It was the last
thing I expected.

The heat down here is
appalling far e worse than Palestine . I shall
be glad to get back, which should be in

about 10 days I think.

My writing is rather bad but
I have a sore on a finger and a large
bandage.

No letters or any news of you for
weeks and weeks, but I suppose no news
is good news, and now probably any
letters will follow me all over Egypt before
I shall get them.

Almost 3 years now, I never
expected to last so long, I think I have
grown a lot.

At present am very peevish, &
bored to death, I expect things will
take a turn shortly.

Am longing for news of you all.

Take care of yourselves and don't
worry at all about anything.

All my love dears.
Roy
